COASTAL VACATIONS

The Kenyan coast is located to the south east of the country where the waters of the Indian Ocean wash the beaches of this part of the country.
The coastal plains stretch from the north through the town of Lamu, with Malindi and Watamu further south. Then through to the reknown city of Mombasa and ownwards through the town of Tiwi and finally reaching its southernmost edge in Diani.
These locations provide activities such as snorkeling and marlin fishing as well as water skiing and surfing. The numerous hotel resorts along the entire coast also provide a relaxing retreat for tourists looking for a calm vacation.
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Many tourists new to the region are often surprised by the rich and diverse cultures present in Kenya. The city of Mombasa along with the other coastal towns witnessed the arrival of Arab traders and settlers dating back to more than 2,000 years ago.
Then came the Portuguese in the later 15th century who engaged in battle with the locals over a few decades, building Fort Jesus in the process.
Indian labourers who came to the region also added the Hindu influence to the already partly muslim town of Mombasa. The interraction with the indigenous ethnic groups along the coast created a unique community.
