On 7th October 2019, Environmental Youth Activist Elizabeth Wathuti paid a visit to the Embassy, where she was able to brief Chargé d´Affairés a.i Ms. Severine Luyali about her visit to Spain at the invitation of the officials of third formative Congress on Sustainable Development (CODES III).  Ms. Luyali  took the opportunity to update her on the Mission’s activities on environment which are geared towards promotion of  Kenya’s Environment diplomacy pillar through collaboration with Spanish institutions  some of which have been in honour of the late Nobel Laureate Prof. Wangari Maathai and her immeasurable environmental conservation efforts with a view to enhancing sustainable environmental awareness. Also present during the meeting was Mr. Samwel Macotiende.

   

Ms. Wathuti was also able to visit the Real Jardín Botánico (Royal Botanical Gardens) where the “Mugumo” tree was planted in honour of Kenya’s late Nobel Laureate Prof. Wangari Maathai as well as the Real Jardin Botanico Alfonso XII (Alfonso XIII Royal Botanical Garden) at the Complutense University where 71 trees were also planted in her honour.
